Mud Soup

I only wish i had taken the camera to capture the whole experience yesterday in the mud with my kids. It was priceless. We decided to take the paint balls and go to the new sub-division next to us, it is still a huge field with the roads paved in asphalt and such, so there is nothing back there. OK, so Braden had control over the jar of paint balls and was going to town smashing them to see what color they were, his expressions and smiles were amazing. When we ran out of paint balls we continued on our quest to find other paint balls that have not been popped. This area is a popular paintball place so they are easy to find. It has been pretty rainy for a few days and the ground was muddy, but the kids were loving the hunt. So off we went into the mud and grass and water to find the ones that have not been popped. It didn't take long before we hit what Braden says "jackpot", he gets so excited over the littlest things, we found yellow, pink, green, orange and some purple oh and some clear ones as well. During this time in the mud we were pushing further back into a somewhat woody area past the road and came upon a drainage ditch with lots of mud and water, the mud was to much to get to close, but i would have been there first on a dry day looking for crawdads to show to Braden. We were on my stomping grounds with mud and frogs and other water bugs to look at. Braden would not go in the tall grass because "their might be snakes." We came upon a Killdeer bird, and trying to explain to Braden that it is a bird and not a dead deer we are looking for. I tried to explain that they nest on the ground and fly away very noisily to scare you off. We saw tons of Frogs jumping in the marshy grass and almost caught one. We did this all in a span of two adventurous hours and I loved every second, i only with i had tennis shoes on and not flip flops, we were not planning on going mudding!! We all sat down on the road with a stick as i removed all the pounds of mud and grass from the shoes and clothes and hair and face. They were a mess, on our way home i can only imagine what people were thinking as we made our long walk back. But the best part was that I sure didn't care because I had a great time with my kids, well minus the orange paint that i can not get out of my favorite cream cords, again not knowing we would be mudding or that i would be close enough to get hit. Oh well that is the price of fun. The kids want to play in the rain so gotta go..until next time, a word of advice never play leap from with a unicorn!!
